Survey wheel not working properly- troubleshooting

In case you experience problems with the survey wheel when you try to collect the data in distance mode of acquisition, please first go through the following troubleshooting steps. These simple steps will usually be enough to pinpoint the problem and in some cases resolve the issue.

Problem description: The survey wheel is working, but the saved distance is not correct

  1. Check that the survey wheel is properly calibrated.
  2. Check that there are no missing magnets in the magnet ring.
  3. Check that the survey wheel magnet is as close as possible to the encoder (<1mm).
  4. Inspect the survey wheel cable and encoder connector for any signs of mechanical damage.
  5. Was the unit beeping during the collection? In this case there is no error, you were moving too fast and the unit was not able to collect all of the requested traces. Lost traces result in incorrect distance measurement. Please move the unit slower or collect lower number of traces per meter.

Problem description: The survey wheel is not working, system does not collect data in distance mode

  1. Check that the wheel with the magnet ring is mounted in the socket where the encoder is.
  2. Check that there are no missing magnets in the magnet ring.
  3. Check that the survey wheel magnet is as close as possible to the encoder (<1mm).
  4. Inspect the survey wheel cable and encoder connector for any signs of mechanical damage.
  5. Go through the survey wheel calibration procedure. Observe the count window and the calibration value window during and after the procedure. Are there any changes in the count window during the calibration (-1,0-1,0...or 1,2,3,4...)? After the calibration, what is the shown calibration value? Please contact Geoscanners support with the results of this step for further guidance.
